Platform Engineer
Sweetwater, the nation's #1 online retailer of pro audio equipment and music instruments, is seeking a Platform Engineer to join our growing IT team. As a member of the Platform Engineering team, you will build, maintain, and expand our internal developer platform (IDP) and infrastructure tooling that powers our engineering teams. This is a hands-on engineering role where writing code and reviewing code are core to your daily work. You'll leverage AI coding assistants and agentic tools such as Claude and Cursor across every responsibility, while developing the judgment to verify their output before it reaches production.
Job Responsibilities
- Build, tune, and optimize cloud infrastructure, particularly GKE Kubernetes clusters in GCP, ensuring reliability and performance at scale
- Manage and improve cloud networking including VPC firewall and service-mesh configurations to support enterprise-scale operations
- Reduce operational toil by driving simplicity in infrastructure automation and deployment processes
- Respond to outages and work with engineering teams to restore service and minimize customer impact
- Lead incident response and review processes, including primary cause analysis and postmortems to drive continuous improvement
- Write, test, and ship code (leveraging AI tools) to build, maintain, and expand our internal developer platform and supporting tools
- Perform thorough code reviews of peers' work, including AI-generated code, ensuring correctness, security, and maintainability standards
- Collaborate with the Platform Engineering Manager and Tech Lead to deliver well-scoped work each sprint, refining requirements and flagging dependencies early
- Contribute to platform health by identifying operational improvements and sharing feedback that strengthens our engineering processes
Qualifications
- Proficiency in TypeScript, Golang, Python, or another object-oriented language with professional development experience
- Strong understanding of containerization and Kubernetes—experience building, deploying, and running containerized workloads at scale
- 2-4+ years of platform engineering or site reliability engineering experience
- Familiarity with context engineering and agentic tools for AI-assisted development
- Experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP) or other LLM-powered developer tooling
- Direct experience building or contributing to an internal developer platform (IDP)
- Exposure to incident management and postmortem processes in production environments
- Skilled in Infrastructure as Code with Terraform and experience interacting with cloud-vendor APIs for provisioning, configuration, and auditing
- Solid understanding of Git source control and DevOps principles as applied to agile processes and continuous release cadence
- Strong experience with the three pillars of observability (metrics, logs, and traces)
- Strong experience with CI/CD tooling and automation of build, test, and deployment workflows (GitLab experience is preferred)
- Proficient use of AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent), including the ability to verify AI-generated code, infrastructure configurations, and scripts for hallucinated resources, misconfigurations, and security issues before deploying to production
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail in identifying and resolving infrastructure challenges
