d&b audiotechnik has introduced vCore, a standalone Soundscape software processing engine available free of charge, enabling preproduction of immersive audio projects without a physical processing engine or loudspeaker system.

According to MONDO-DR, vCore is integrated within Create.Control v1.4 and works with a pair of headphones to deliver binaural output, allowing front-of-house engineers and sound designers to prepare and audition mixes from their preferred DAW before arriving on site.

The product management lead for Soundscape at d&b audiotechnik said the tool lets audio professionals plan and prelisten to projects anywhere, requiring only the latest Create.Control version and headphones. He added that d&b wants to make Soundscape free, easy to use and fun for artists, designers and mixers.

vCore supports up to 64 inputs and provides two-channel binaural rendering experienced via headphones or streamed into applications such as webinars and broadcasts. The download includes the built-in d&b AudioBridge, which routes audio directly from a DAW into vCore. The software supports macOS and Windows and is available as a free download from the d&b website, potentially broadening the user base for Soundscape technology among professionals who previously needed dedicated hardware to engage with the platform.
