Ohma World has introduced the Ohmie, a $349 cardioid condenser microphone featuring a dual-voltage switch that alters the capsule polarisation between 48V and 80V while running entirely on standard 48V phantom power.
According to MusicTech, the East Los Angeles manufacturer says internal circuitry generates the higher voltage, requiring no special preamp or external supply. The company describes the 48V setting as natural and relaxed, while the 80V mode delivers roughly 5dB greater sensitivity with a punchier, more defined character.
The transformer-less design uses an edge-terminated cardioid capsule seated in an isolated mount with a custom isolation chip to reduce stand noise. Ohma says the microphone works with audio interfaces and portable field recorders.
The Ohmie is sold through Ohma’s website and its dealer network, shipping free worldwide with 30-day returns and a one-year warranty that extends to two years with registration. An optional magnetic pop filter that attaches without clamps or goosenecks is available in a Black Friday bundle priced at £303.
The microphone joins Ohma World’s existing modular transformer-coupled condensers and active ribbons, though the Ohmie derives its character from the voltage switch rather than interchangeable hardware. All Ohma products are designed and assembled in East Los Angeles.
