Holovis has combined six Panasonic PT-RZ24K 20,000-lumen WUXGA 3-Chip DLP laser projectors with KV2 Audio systems to create a family attraction in a 1,300sqm dome at Gunwharf Quays, a waterfront shopping and leisure destination in Portsmouth, UK, Installation reported.

The ApolloDomes installation uses the Panasonic projectors to create an immersive environment across the dome’s curved interior. Holovis developed the attraction in partnership with Landsec, and it has hosted seasonal productions including festive and Halloween-themed experiences. The dome combines large-scale projection with sound design, narrative storytelling and live performers.

KV2 Audio provides sound reinforcement, with CS6 loudspeakers, ESD 1.15 subwoofers and ESD 6 surrounds selected to deliver coverage while keeping equipment unobtrusive. Creating a seamless image across the dome requires precise projector alignment, geometry correction and edge blending, according to Holovis, which also designed the visual content to help disguise transitions between projected images.

The projectors offer a compact footprint and high brightness that aid integration within the dome. Reliability features include laser failover circuitry and automatic switching to a backup input. Rather than focusing on retail, the attraction was designed to give families another reason to visit Gunwharf Quays.
