Entries for the awards must be commercially released within a designated period and fall within the group’s broad spectrum of rock, metal, and progressive styles, which currently includes a dozen distinct genres ranging from classic rock to symphonic metal. An Academy of Judges evaluates submissions for Best Album and Best Song or Track, with exceptional music receiving Awards of Recognition. The mission focuses on raising public awareness of new releases and providing professional peer recognition for artists across the industry.
Beyond the awards, the alliance utilizes a three-pronged approach involving podcasts, live events, and digital exposure to raise public awareness. The RMA Podcast features interviews with established artists and emerging talent, while playlists offer another avenue for discovery.
