Steinberg is commemorating the 30th anniversary of its Virtual Studio Technology standard by releasing a free bundle of five legacy software instruments and effects. According to a report from Synthtopia, the newly available Steinberg Classics Collection provides updated VST3 versions of Neon, VB-1, Model E, LM-7, and Karlette. The source indicates these plugins have been modified to ensure compatibility with modern Windows and macOS operating systems while retaining their original functionality.
Synthtopia notes that the collection allows users to access tools that helped establish software instruments as viable alternatives to hardware during the late 1990s and early 2000s. The report details that the bundle includes the Neon virtual analog synthesizer, which originally launched with Cubase VST 3.7, alongside the VB-1 virtual bass instrument and the Model E polyphonic synthesizer, formerly known as CS-40. Additionally, the package features the LM-7 sample-based drum machine and the Karlette tape delay effect, Synthtopia states.
All items in the collection are delivered in the VST3 format, the source adds. Synthtopia confirms that the Steinberg Classics Collection is available immediately as a free download for both Windows and macOS platforms. This release marks three decades since the introduction of the VST protocol by the company.
