Teenage Engineering has released OP-XY OS 1.2.0, an update the company describes as the largest since the device was introduced, according to Synthtopia. The firmware adds a new drum synthesizer called drumline, multichannel audio over USB-C, a dynamic filter, expanded envelope controls, and a detune parameter.
Drumline features ten drum models covering kicks, snares, hi-hats, congas, shakers, and claps, Synthtopia reported. Each model offers four dedicated parameters plus sub-parameters for deeper sound design. A new envelope tailored to drumline adds attack and length controls, a funk parameter for rhythmic variation, and randomization on every hit.
The update also introduces three USB audio output modes: standard stereo, a customizable two-channel output, and a fully customizable eight-channel mode. The eight-channel option includes four preset and four user-programmable routings, allowing individual instrument and auxiliary tracks to be sent over USB-C for stem recording into a DAW or live external routing.
The new dynamic filter combines high-pass and low-pass filtering with compression and drive, usable with drumline to shape transients or with other sound engines to add depth. The detune parameter adds finer pitch control for analog-style character. Details are available on the Teenage Engineering site.
