tokyomeltdown has updated EQ Mirror, a plugin that displays the frequency curve an EQ is actually applying, to version 2.0, according to a report from Monthly Mixing. The update adds EQ Mirror Dock, which loads an EQ directly and shows its curve, expanding on the previous method of inserting one plugin before and one after an EQ to compare signals.

EQ Mirror Dock loads AU and VST3 EQs installed on a Mac and displays their curves, with the curve changing as knobs are turned even when playback is stopped. The Dock measures a silent copy of the EQ internally using test noise. Monthly Mixing reports that an EQ loaded inside the Dock cannot be automated from the host, so the previous method must be used when automation is needed.

The background spectrum is tilted by 3dB per octave in this version, so a balanced mix reportedly appears roughly flat. tokyomeltdown describes EQ Mirror as a learning tool for engineers who find the knob markings on analog-style EQs hard to read, with the idea being to check what the EQ is doing, remove it, and work by ear.

The price is $18 as a one-time purchase, with EQ Mirror and EQ Mirror Dock provided together. Existing users can update for free, and the license can be applied to up to five Macs. A 14-day free trial is available. It requires macOS 12 or later and supports both Apple Silicon and Intel.
