Gibson has released a limited run of 250 Flying V guitars honoring the 50th anniversary of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, paired with a lifestyle collection of apparel, accessories and collectibles developed with the Tom Petty Estate.
According to Guitar.com, the guitars, dubbed the Flying Five, come in five gloss nitrocellulose finishes with 50 made in each color: Gainesville Gold, Graphite Metallic, Heartbreaker Red, Pearl White Metallic and Pelham Blue.
Each instrument features a mahogany body and neck, SlimTaper profile, rosewood fretboard with 12-inch radius and 22 medium jumbo frets, two 70s Tribute humbuckers with individual volume controls, master tone and three-way selector, gold-plated hardware, Grover Rotomatic tuners and a Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge. Commemorative details include a Heartbreaker 50th truss rod cover and a reproduction of Petty’s signature on the headstock back. Every guitar ships in a Gibson hardshell case.
The apparel line, made with Nashville-based imogene + Willie, includes American-made screen-printed T-shirts, a military shirt jacket and a Backstage work jacket. Schott N.Y.C. produced 75 black steerhide leather jackets reimagining the one Petty wore on the 1976 debut album cover. Additional items include a Zippo lighter, bandana, cap, guitar strap, pick tin, sticker set and Flying V mini guitar.
