Guitars for Vets is selling donated instruments through its Gear Exchange storefront to help fund new guitars for veterans completing its free instruction program. The nonprofit and Sweetwater described the partnership in a Nov. 4 announcement.

Gear Exchange is Sweetwater’s marketplace for used music equipment. Guitars for Vets receives donated guitars, basses and other gear, then offers instruments through its own storefront. Proceeds support the organization’s 10-week guitar program, whose graduates receive a new instrument and accessory kit.

The organization said it had sold nearly 150 instruments through the partnership since the online store opened in late 2025. Sweetwater also provides gift cards to volunteer instructors based on the number of veterans they guide through the program.

Guitars for Vets began in 2007 through guitar teacher Patrick Nettesheim and Vietnam veteran Dan VanBuskirk. The program provides free instruction through veterans’ facilities and other community partners, with support from volunteer teachers.
