DPA Microphones, Wisycom and Austrian Audio equipment supplied by DPA’s United States team is being used on Hilary Duff’s Lucky Me tour. The equipment supports audience capture, monitoring, vocals and instruments for the performers and production team.

DPA 2015 Compact Wide Cardioid and 2017 Compact Shotgun microphones are assigned to ambient sound and audience capture. Those microphones form part of the tour’s approach to bringing the sound and energy of the audience into the monitoring experience.

Monitor engineer Nathan Bond began using the microphones after connecting with Gabriel Antonini, a microphone application specialist on DPA’s Technical Solutions Team. Bond had previously used standard shotgun microphones over the audience and described difficulties capturing that sound in venues with more than 20,000 people.

According to the company’s release, the change to the DPA 2015 and 2017 microphones addressed the audience-capture problem. Bond credited the two models with improving the result compared with his previous setup.

Music director Jacob Harelick’s work on the tour includes the broader concert experience as well as the performance itself. The production’s audio system combines the audience microphones with Wisycom transmitters and receivers for monitoring and Austrian Audio microphones for vocals and instruments.
