Microsoft’s October 2026 Security Update for Windows 11 is expected to roll out automatically on Oct. 13, according to a report from Tbreak Media UAE citing Windows Central. The update covers versions 26H2, 25H2 and 24H2, with 24H2 receiving its final quality update before end of support.

For music-products retailers and manufacturers supporting Windows-based studio and production systems, the update introduces several workflow-relevant changes. A new accessibility option, “Open apps maximized,” found under Settings > Accessibility > Visual Effects, lets applications launch maximized rather than in full-screen mode, Tbreak reported.

The Copilot key can now be remapped to Right Ctrl or the Context Menu key via Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Keyboard, expanding customization options for keyboard-centric DAW users. Precision touchpads gain two scrolling options: one-finger vertical scrolling along the left or right edge, or continuous scrolling by moving a finger upward without lifting it.

File Explorer’s Preview pane can now display downloaded HTML files after confirming an internet warning, and PDFs preview automatically. The Home page remembers expanded or collapsed sections, and the Details pane improves thumbnail reliability for cloud files.

The Windows Recovery Environment can now reuse Wi-Fi profiles already saved in Windows, a change on by default that Tbreak said should make features such as Quick Machine Recovery easier to reach. Microsoft is also removing PC-to-PC Migration, which transferred files and settings during new PC setup.
