Apple has introduced the 14-inch MacBook Pro M6 and 24-inch iMac M6, positioning both machines as production workstations for DAW-based music creation, according to a report from gearnews. The new models retain existing chassis designs, connectivity and colorways while delivering performance upgrades across the board.
The M6 chip features a dual 16-core neural engine and per-GPU core matrix-multiplication neural acceleration, providing 25 percent faster AI processing compared to the M5, gearnews reported. Additional GPU cores and architecture upgrades enable 30 percent faster graphics performance. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 arrive via the new N1 wireless chip.
Memory bandwidth increases to 170 GB/s on both machines, which gearnews said dramatically improves performance for local large language models and Apple Intelligence tasks. The iMac M6 offers up to 2x faster internal SSD read/write speeds, while the 12-core configuration includes 2.5Gb Ethernet for server functionality. The MacBook Pro’s Liquid Retina XDR display can now be configured with a nano-texture finish for an extra $150.
Both products are available for pre-order and ship in early November. The 14-inch MacBook Pro M6 starts at $1,999, while the iMac M6 starts at $1,499. Gearnews noted the iMac represents the better value option, particularly since the previous iMac model was the M4 and the MacBook Pro saw a significant price increase.
