The Town of Babylon has honored D’Addario with ceremonial street signs recognizing the company’s connection to East Farmingdale, New York.

The signs designate a section of Smith Street, from New Highway to Wellwood Avenue, as D’Addario Way. Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer, members of the town board and the D’Addario family participated in the ceremony Sept. 3.

The recognition marks more than 50 years of local manufacturing and the involvement of four generations of the family in the business. D’Addario’s current company was established in 1974 and moved to its Farmingdale campus in 1994.

The family’s string-making history reaches back to Salle, Italy, in the 1600s. Family members emigrated to Astoria, New York, in 1905, continuing a trade that later developed into the musical instrument string and accessory business.

Chief executive John D’Addario III joined family members and town officials for the ceremony. The dedication recognizes the manufacturer’s longstanding presence in the community and its role as a local employer.
