Black Lion Audio has introduced the Auteur 8DAT, combining eight microphone preamps, an ADAT expander and a word clock in a two-rackspace unit. The company announced the model May 5, 2026.

The preamps combine an integrated-circuit input stage with Cinemag output transformers. Each channel has independent 48-volt phantom power, polarity reversal and a 10 dB pad. Front-panel quarter-inch inputs can switch between direct-instrument and line-level operation.

Analog XLR outputs support connection to a console, while ADAT outputs add preamp channels to compatible audio interfaces. Eight inserts use DB25 connections, with front-panel controls for comparing external processing. Insert sends can also be used as mults for parallel-processing or mid-side setups.

The unit uses Black Lion’s Macro-MMC clocking technology and has BNC clock connections. It can serve as the system’s clock source or synchronize to an external clock. Conversion supports sample rates up to 192 kHz.

The Auteur 8DAT uses Vishay, Wima and Nichicon capacitors, thin-film resistors and a black-anodized aluminum faceplate. The announced U.S. minimum advertised price is $1,999. The European suggested selling price is 2,599 euros including 19% value-added tax. Preorders opened May 5, with shipping projected for the second quarter of 2026.
