Sony has introduced the ECM-AX10, a USB-C powered microphone designed to bring spatial audio recording to smartphones. The product is aimed at vloggers, mobile filmmakers and content creators, and carries an MSRP of $249.99, with shipping expected in late October 2026.

The ECM-AX10 uses four built-in omnidirectional capsules to capture sound from multiple directions. Sony’s Spatial Audio Video Tool app processes the recordings to create a sense of space, direction and distance in the Eclipsa Audio format, the open-source standard developed with Google and Samsung. The microphone is Eclipsa-certified, mixonline.com reported.

The device offers three recording modes: Ambisonics recording for spatial audio production exporting to Eclipsa Audio, binaural recording for immersive headphone playback using Sony’s proprietary spatial audio technology, and stereo recording for everyday video and social content. Support for 4K recording will be added in December 2026.

The Spatial Audio Video Tool app enables creators to shoot video, review footage, make simple edits and export content with spatial audio, covering the entire production workflow on a smartphone. The microphone weighs approximately 24 grams.
