The Crow Hill Company has added Dulcet Vocal to its free Vaults collection of sample-based music software. The virtual instrument uses recordings of Scottish singer-songwriter and composer Dot Allison and adds effects for shaping the vocal samples.
The instrument includes Timbre, a dynamic filter assigned to MIDI CC1, and Scatter, which blends short vocal fragments and unmeasured tremolos performed by Allison. Repeat slices, repeats and reverses the performance in sync with the host application’s tempo. Other controls include a frequency shifter-based modulation effect, a stereo ping-pong delay and reverb.
Dulcet Vocal is a smaller companion to the company’s Dot Allison-Dulcet Voice library. It uses the Vaults interface with a mossy green color scheme and controls for blending the sampled vocal recordings and effects.
Installation and activation require the Crow Hill App. Users add Vaults releases to their accounts at no charge and can continue using them after the titles leave the download rotation. Six Vaults titles are available to download at a time, with the oldest rotated out when a new monthly release is added. Some retired titles return in archive collections offered in exchange for a charitable donation.
