Jupiter has named New Orleans sousaphonist and educator Julius McKee an artist ambassador.
McKee performs on the company’s JSP1100 sousaphone. His work includes performances with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Tremé Brass Band and Preservation Brass, linking contemporary brass band activity with New Orleans musical traditions.
He is also the founder of Bass X, a collective associated with his work as a performer and mentor. Jupiter’s announcement emphasizes his involvement in education and the preservation of jazz traditions alongside his performing career.
The ambassador appointment adds McKee to the manufacturer’s artist community. His experience spans ensemble performance and the transmission of a musical tradition that depends on both professional bands and younger players.
The announcement identifies the sousaphone model he uses and his continuing connection to New Orleans. It presents the partnership as a relationship with a working musician and educator whose activities include performance, mentorship and community engagement.
