Mayer EMI has officially released Aurora 5.0, the largest free firmware update to date for its MD850 Vibes desktop synthesizer, according to a report by gearnews. This significant software expansion aims to boost the product’s market appeal by adding studio-grade features without requiring new hardware purchases from retailers or consumers.
The update introduces Cloud Reverb, a true-stereo effect with over 40 parameters and 26 presets that also processes external audio signals via the unit’s inputs. Gearnews notes that the firmware expands Vintage Mode to include analog-style tuning variations and enables SFZ multisample import through drag-and-drop functionality in the VibesConnect software. These imported samples can be layered with existing wavetable oscillators.
Distribution and usability are enhanced through automatic mapping for popular MIDI controllers like the AKAI Fire and Novation Launchpad Pro, which now interface directly with the synth’s step sequencer and clip launcher. The manufacturer also redesigned the on-screen GUI and added an info center alongside single-click sound pack installation. With over 335 new sounds included, gearnews confirms the update is available immediately for all current owners, while the hardware remains available for order through retailer Thomann.
