With VU-style metering and a classic control layout, it represents the foundation of VCA compression. – XT: A warmer, more harmonically dense version with enhanced low-frequency presence and fuller bottom end. The XT model includes the Overeasy control for soft-knee compression and benefits from the harmonic character of the optional transformer in the reference hardware. – A: A more modern and transparent evolution with slightly faster response and tighter control. Its snappy attack makes it ideal for taming sharp transients while maintaining clarity and a wider frequency response.
Beyond the Hardware Like all plugins in the Gem Series, Comp160 expands upon the capabilities of the original hardware with powerful modern features: – Built-in Mid-Side processing-Built-in parallel compression-User-controllable harmonic generation-LF sensitivity control-Ultra oversampling mode-Multilevel undo/redo-A/B comparison-Scribble Strips for notes directly on the interface-VU meter calibration with four sensitivity settings Combining the unmistakable punch of a classic VCA compressor with modern flexibility and precision, Gem Comp160 brings timeless dynamics control into today’s production environments.
