Featuring our original handmade S23 capsule (the same capsule as our 023 Bomblet), a transformerless FET circuit, custom-machined internal resonator, and switchable -10 dB and -20 dB pads, The 1973 has a clear, open sound with the musical character that Soyuz microphones are known for.
It captures vocals with honesty and depth. On guitar amps, it shines with punch and immediacy. As a drum overhead, it presents a detailed, natural picture of the kit.
With switchable pads for extra headroom, it adds power to kick drums and handles other high-SPL sources with ease.
The 1973 Red Velvet Edition arrives with a matching custom shockmount and handcrafted oak suitcase.
The sound of The 1973 starts with the S23 capsule, the same original Soyuz capsule design found in the larger Soyuz 023 Bomblet.
Inspired by classic LOMO and AKG designs of the early 1970s, the S23 reimagines the CK12 architecture through Soyuz’s own approach.
Its center-terminated design uses a custom triple-backplate system developed to deliver deep lows, a pronounced and musical midrange, and a pleasing top end that brings detail to high-frequency sources without exaggerating them.
The 1973 pairs its S23 capsule with a transformerless FET circuit for a fast, direct response with excellent clarity and transient detail.
The streamlined signal path keeps the noise floor low without sounding sterile or clinical, letting the natural character of the capsule and source come through.
Inside the mic body, a custom-machined resonator helps reduce unwanted internal resonance while adding a degree of plosive protection. This unique resonator keeps the 1973’s sound balanced and articulate when working up close, whether that’s over a tom, a few inches from a cab, or right on top of a vocalist.
