Steele describes her draw to the Altus Flutes after purchasing her own in 2019, “I found an aliveness in the sound that I never experienced on other instruments. It has given me a renewed enthusiasm for exploring my voice as an artist.” Steele also highlights the comfortability of the Altus Flutes’ describing it as an “extension of her body due to its light and easy feel.”
Beyond performing, Steele demonstrates her commitment to training the next generation of flutists through her involvement with Carnegie Mellon and Duquesne University. She volunteers for the Pittsburgh Symphony’s Early Childhood Pilot Project, serves as an adjudicator for the National Flute Association, and contributes as an author to Flute Talk magazine.
