Elektron has officially launched the Outbox 8, an eight-channel audio and control voltage breakout box designed to expand physical output capabilities for its hardware grooveboxes and other class-compliant devices. According to MusicRadar, the new unit addresses limitations in instruments like the Digitone II and Digitakt II, which offer 16 voices but only one stereo analog output.
MusicRadar reports that while current Elektron gear can route individual tracks via USB, doing so typically requires the Overbridge plugin or a computer host. The Outbox 8 enables users to route individual tracks, stems, or submixes for external processing and mixing without a computer intermediary, serving as a flexible bridge for sound and control. The device also functions as a MIDI-to-CV converter, allowing digital control signals from sequencers or DAWs to be routed as analog signals to hardware synthesizers or modular rigs.
Configuration for most Elektron grooveboxes occurs directly through the instrument menu, while third-party devices utilize a browser-based app provided by the manufacturer. MusicRadar notes the unit is available now with pricing set at $349 USD, £259, or 299 euros. The release targets electronic live performers and DAWless producers seeking plug-and-play expansion for their existing setups.
