UJAM has introduced DETUNICORN, a synthesizer plug-in focused on detuned hypersaw chords and stabs. Announced October 21, the Halloween release is offered for free download and activation for 666 hours, with indefinite use after activation.
The instrument draws on supersaw sounds popularized by synthesizers such as the Roland JP-8000 and Nord Lead, with additional layering and processing associated with hyperpop, digicore and dance pop. Rather than providing a broad range of synthesis options, DETUNICORN concentrates on that single sound.
The plug-in combines two supersaw oscillators with a sub-oscillator. Up to four unison layers can be detuned and spread across the stereo field, with additional controls for pitch movement, high-frequency character and spatial effects.
Six dedicated controls shape the sound. Unison adjusts the number of layers, Detune creates movement between oscillators and Sub sets the sub-oscillator level. Bend controls the decay time of the octave pitch envelope, while Bite adds high-frequency emphasis. Infinity introduces a spatial reverb designed for DETUNICORN.
DETUNICORN supports VST2, VST3, AU2 and AAX formats for macOS and Windows. Users must download and activate the plug-in during the announced window to retain indefinite use. The activation requirement distinguishes the limited download period from the ongoing use of an activated copy.
