Solid State Logic is bringing back the SSL Stereo Bus Compressor in the form of the new Bus Comp Classic, a 1RU unit, mixonline.com reported.
The unit pairs THAT 2181 VCAs in the audio path with a side-chain architecture incorporating a VCA within its feedback loop, recreating the familiar behavior of the original SSL Bus Compressor that became a studio mainstay, according to mixonline.com.
A new Variable VCA Drive control provides continuously variable access to SSL console character across generations. When switched out, the unit delivers the clean, fast transient response tied to SSL’s SuperAnalogue lineage, including the 9000 Series and Duality consoles, before gradually adding the harmonic richness of the FX384 and 4000 Series, the report noted.
The Bus Comp Classic retains the familiar SSL workflow with stepped controls for Ratio, Attack, Release, and side-chain high-pass filter. SSL Auto Release adapts to complex material, while a six-position side-chain high-pass filter helps preserve the depth and impact of kick drums and bass. A stereo external side-chain input supports creative and delivery workflows, mixonline.com added.
SSL will have the Bus Comp Classic on-hand to check out at AES Nashville 2026 in its booth.
