Sterling is expanding its product lineup with the Music Man Session Series, a premium tier that the company describes as bringing the family of Music Man brands closer together. The lineup debuts with the Music Man Session StingRay Bass, representing the highest level of Sterling by Music Man instruments.

According to No Treble, Sterling developed the Session Series through a rigorous design and build process in collaboration with the Ernie Ball Music Man team. The company says the bass captures the sound and attitude of StingRay models from the 1990s and 2000s while incorporating premium modern features not previously found on instruments from that period.

Retro features include Schaller tuners matching those on earlier decades’ models. Modern additions include a compensated nut for improved tuning accuracy, a roasted maple neck with an oil and wax finish, and a Music Man Session Alnico 5 humbucker paired with onboard 3-band active EQ. Sterling offers the bass with either an ash or poplar body, with roasted maple or rosewood fingerboard options.

Manufactured in Indonesia, the four-string model carries a $1,599.99 MSRP and the five-string lists at $1,699.99 MSRP. Sterling says each instrument undergoes rigorous quality control throughout the build process.
