Audio-Technica has re-introduced the ATM25 hypercardioid dynamic instrument microphone, a legacy product first launched in 1983 and relied upon by countless engineers and musicians for capturing kick drums, according to a report from fohonline.com. The microphone now fully returns to the company’s lineup with its original design unchanged.

The ATM25 is engineered for focused capture of high sound pressure levels at close range, making it suited for kick drums, toms, brass and other highly dynamic instruments, the report states. It also works well on electric guitar and bass cabinets, and for close-up voiceover and radio broadcast applications. Its hypercardioid polar pattern provides rejection of off-axis sound while delivering a warm, full-bodied low-frequency response.

The microphone features a rugged, all-metal body with a stand clamp and multilevel grille for reliable performance in studio and stage settings. Audio-Technica U.S. Senior Marketing Manager Gary Boss said the company changed nothing, noting the classic ATM25 is made in Japan following the original design, according to the report.
