Heritage Auctions announced Lonnie Mack’s 1958 Gibson Flying V, known as “Number 7,” as a featured instrument in its Oct. 15 guitar auction.
The original September announcement also identified Mack’s Magnatone Custom 440 amplifier among the equipment offered. The Flying Vis associated with Mack’s recording and performing career and is an example of Gibson’s original 1958 design.
Other instruments named in the auction announcement included a 1959 Les Paul, a 1952 Telecaster and a 1970-71 Les Paul Custom associated with Tom Fogerty.
Heritage vintage guitar director Aaron Piscopo and music managing director Dave Hinson discussed the instruments in the release. The announcement presented the guitars as historical instruments with connections to working musicians, as well as collectible examples of their respective models.
