Steinberg has launched Cubase 16, the newest version of its digital audio workstation, in three editions spanning Pro, Artist and Elements. According to mixonline.com, the Hamburg-based developer has added new creative tools and workflow refinements aimed at users ranging from aspiring musicians to professional composers.
The release introduces Instrument Stacks, which let producers combine multiple VST instruments, Sampler Tracks and Drum Tracks into a single playable instrument with per-layer controls. New Key Editor functions include Strum, which adds timing variations to programmed chords, and a Stretch Selection tool for compressing or expanding MIDI passages directly. Steinberg’s HALion team contributed Spectral AudioWarp algorithms designed for extreme time-stretching applications.
Stem Separation now outputs six stems — vocals, drums, bass, piano, guitar and other instruments — using updated separation technology. Tempo Detection also received an upgraded algorithm paired with a streamlined workflow. A redesigned Settings dialog consolidates preferences, key commands, project setup and audio connections into one searchable interface. Steinberg also adds new instruments, effects and sound libraries with the release.
