Universal Audio has released Capitol Studios, a native room modeling and reverb plugin that recreates Studios A and B at Capitol Studios along with four echo chambers beneath Capitol Tower, according to Monthly Mixing.
The publication reports the plugin includes the studio’s microphone collection, outboard gear and console emulations. A Dynamic Room Modelling feature lets the space respond in real time as users move microphones around the room.
Monthly Mixing says a Historic Mic Locker contains vintage microphone setups assembled by Capitol alum Steve Genewick. The plugin also offers Decca Tree ensemble setups for strings, horns and vocal groups, plus large-format British consoles and in-house analog gear. Presets built from past and present Capitol engineers, producers and musicians are included.
Universal Audio Senior Product Designer Will Shanks said Capitol Studios remains an integral part of record-making history and the company wanted to capture what makes the rooms special, Monthly Mixing reports.
The plugin supports VST3, AU and AAX formats and runs on Windows 10 or later and macOS 11 or later. Monthly Mixing reports it costs $249 and is also included in the UAD Spark Studio subscription.
