HEDD Audio has introduced the TYPE 40 Main, a compact sealed three-way active monitor, alongside the TYPE 40 System, a modular platform that allows studios to add bass output and directional control by stacking self-powered XTD modules beneath the Main cabinet, according to MusicTech.
The Berlin manufacturer says the Main reaches 20 Hz on its own using a high-excursion woofer and sealed enclosure, with Class D amplification delivering peak output up to 123 dB SPL. The Main pairs two four-inch midrange drivers with a hand-built Air Motion Transformer in a D’Appolito MTM layout. HEDD positions the system for mixing and mastering suites, post-production facilities and larger control rooms needing more level and low-end reach than nearfields provide without requiring a traditional large-format main.
Each XTD module houses a 10 3/4-inch high-excursion woofer and a 700W Class D amplifier, with up to three installable per channel. HEDD says three XTDs in Frontfire Ported mode raise maximum SPL at 50 Hz by up to 15 dB versus the Main alone. Selectable Cardioid configurations can reduce rearward radiation by approximately 10 dB.
HEDD CTRL software manages configurations over Ethernet, supporting systems from stereo pairs to immersive installations of up to 250 speakers. Both products are available now through selected HEDD partners, with the Main priced at $7,499 per unit and the XTD at $6,999 per unit.
