Engineer Marlan Barry will use Immersive Design Labs microphones to capture The Orchestra Now at Bard College’s Fisher Center on Nov. 14 and 15.
The graduate training orchestra’s program at Sosnoff Theater features JoAnn Falletta and violinist Mira Wang. Music includes Gershwin’s “An American in Paris” and works by Gruenberg, Saminsky and Toch, along with the U.S. premiere of Waghalter’s Violin Concerto.
Barry plans to use four IDL-3203 half-inch omnidirectional microphones. A central stereo pair and widely spaced outriggers will form the main pickup arrangement, with additional spot microphones as needed. The performances will also be available through a livestream.
The Orchestra Now combines performance with professional preparation for conservatory graduates. Its activities include rehearsals, recordings, seminars, master classes, teaching and career development. The microphone setup will support the recording and streaming of a program exploring jazz and music by Jewish émigré composers.
