Polyend has released Tracker Community Edition 1.0, opening the firmware source code for its Tracker, Tracker+ and Tracker Mini hardware samplers to developers and users, Synthtopia reported. The move transforms the instruments from closed platforms into modifiable hardware that independent developers can extend with custom synthesizer engines, effects and workflow changes.

The release includes an updated firmware with SD-card streaming for longer samples, additional sequencing controls, six Sample Editor effects and generators, and new wavetable envelopes and LFOs. Tracker+ and Tracker Mini also gain two new synthesizer engines, CHIP and DIRT. Polyend has published developer tools for creating custom Sample Editor plugins and synthesizer engines, along with a hardware recovery system to restore working firmware if an experimental build fails.

Polyend revised its license to an MIT-based model that permits commercial reuse of individual code components and SDKs while restricting commercial clones of the complete Tracker application and retaining separate restrictions on proprietary precompiled synthesizer libraries. The Community Edition is available as a free firmware download from Polyend’s official GitHub repository, supporting all three Tracker models.
