Audient has officially launched Horizon, a new flagship line of Thunderbolt audio interfaces designed for the professional studio market. According to reporting by MusicRadar, the British manufacturer developed the range over five years to offer high-channel-count connectivity without relying on proprietary plugin ecosystems.
The lineup includes three 1U models sharing a core platform with 32-bit converters and 133dB dynamic range. The Horizon 8P serves as a tracking interface with eight Console mic preamps, while the Horizon 16 and Horizon 32 function as pure converters for users utilizing external outboard gear. MusicRadar notes that the series eliminates onboard DSP entirely, instead utilizing Thunderbolt 3 architecture to achieve 0.99ms round-trip latency at 192kHz.
Andrew Allen, Audient’s chief product officer, stated that increasing Apple Silicon and host processing power diminishes the value of DSP walled gardens. The interfaces support daisy-chaining up to four units for a maximum of 200 inputs and outputs on a single macOS driver. Retail pricing is set at $2,799 for the Horizon 8P and Horizon 16, with the Horizon 32 listed at $3,499. All three models are scheduled to become available to retailers and consumers on September 28 with a three-year warranty.
