Universal Audio has launched Luna 3.0, a major update to its digital audio workstation that introduces AI-powered stem separation, lyric transcription, and chord extraction capabilities. MusicRadar reported that the company is calling this launch its biggest software release to date. The update restructures the product line into two tiers: the overhauled Luna Free and a new paid version renamed Luna Studio. Both versions now include Luna Play, a streamlined recording mode designed to automatically detect instruments and set levels for rapid idea capture. While the free tier offers four-track stem separation covering drums, vocals, bass, and other elements, the paid Luna Studio adds guitar and piano isolation along with audio-to-MIDI functionality.
The paid tier, priced at $199, also bundles third-party instruments from Celemony and Dreamtonics. To support distribution of its expanding plugin library, Universal Audio introduced UAD Spark Studio, a subscription service costing $19.99 monthly or $149.99 annually. This plan provides access to Luna Studio and 70 native plugins, including analogue emulations of compressors, channel strips, preamps, EQs, tape machines, delays, reverbs, and amps. These enhancements significantly increase the value proposition for budget-conscious music makers by offering advanced features previously unavailable in the free version. The software integrates classic channel strips and mixing consoles directly into the recording environment, allowing users to record through native plugins regardless of hardware ownership.
