Avid has launched Pro Tools Extensions, a new plug-in format that lets third-party tools and services operate directly within its digital audio workstation, according to Synthtopia.

Debuting with Pro Tools 2026.11, the format supports workflows spanning multiple tracks or entire sessions, unlike conventional AAX plug-ins limited to individual tracks. Synthtopia reports the system accommodates integrated sound libraries, workflow automation, collaboration and specialized production tools, accessible through a dedicated menu and available even without an open session.

The initial lineup includes integrations from Pro Sound Effects, Soundly, Forte and Pibox. Existing Splice and SoundFlow integrations, originally released in 2025, are being folded into the Extensions environment, Synthtopia notes.

Avid also introduced its own Stem Separator Extension, using AI to split recordings into individual audio elements. The update adds MIDI Polyphonic Expression support and additional workflow improvements.

Pro Tools 2026.11 is available now for Pro Tools Artist, Studio and Ultimate subscribers, plus perpetual-license holders with active Upgrade Plans, Synthtopia reports.
