GForce Software has introduced the Oberheim Matrix-12, an officially licensed software synthesizer developed in collaboration with Oberheim and Marcus Ryle, one of the original hardware designers, according to a Synthtopia report. The release recreates the 1985 instrument’s 12-voice architecture, 15-mode filter and modulation system while adding a redesigned interface and more than 570 factory patches, including over 190 original Matrix-12 and Xpander sounds.

The instrument is available now for macOS and Windows as a standalone application and in AU, AAX, VST and VST3 formats. The regular price is $119.99, with an introductory price of $83.99 available through Dec. 5, 2026. A 14-day trial is also offered.

Synthtopia reported that each voice features two modeled VCOs with FM, hard sync and noise, feeding a 15-mode filter and dual VCAs. Five envelopes, five LFOs, four ramps, three trackers and a lag processor per voice support drag-and-drop modulation with six bipolar slots per parameter. Multi mode divides the instrument into six overlapping keyboard zones with independent voice allocation, MIDI channel and micro arpeggiator settings. Full MPE support, velocity and release velocity, polyphonic pressure, four global Macros, stereo delay and matrix reverb round out the feature set.
